Because not all the students wishing to complete or enhance
their education live near the University of Wyoming we take the
classroom experience across the state. With the help of modern
technology, UW is able to offer courses in Kemmerer, allowing
off-campus students to receive their degrees while staying in
their hometown.
On-line degree programs available in Kemmerer include Certificate
in Real Estate, Certificate for Director of Early Childhood Programs,
Bachelors in Early Childhood Development, Bachelors in Business
Administration, Bachelors in Nursing, Masters in Nursing Education
and Masters in Education - Instructional Technology. Local teleconference
degree programs are also available for Bachelors in Criminal
Justice, Bachelors in Social Science, Bachelors in Psychology,
Masters in Speech-Language Pathology, Masters in Public Administration,
and a Certificate in Surveying.
While not available in Kemmerer, Masters degrees in Education-Special
Education, Education-Teaching and Learning, Education-Adult and
Post Secondary Education, and Business Administration are offered
by compressed video in neighboring town including Evanston and
Rock Springs.
ACADEMIC ADVISING IN KEMMERER
The University of Wyoming has several regional offices across
the state. The academic coordinators and assistants help students
in getting started in an off-campus program. Kemmerer's regional
office is located in Rock Springs on the Wester Wyoming Community

Bachelor of Arts or Science, Social Science (Part V)
The Bachelor of Arts in Social Science (Plan V) degree is
tailored to students wishing to develop an individualized course
of study. The requirements for the program are the same as those
for other programs, except, instead of being concentrated in
only one area, they are distributed across disciplines. Areas
of study include: anthropology, communication and mass media,
economics, geography and recreation, history, political science,
psychology, and sociology.
Students must earn 48 credit hours in at least four of the eight
areas listed above, with a minimum, of 15 credit hours in one
area and six credit hours in each of the other three areas. The
remaining 15 credit hours may be fulfilled by taking electives
in any of the eight departments. Before entering the off-campus
program, students must finish their first 60 hours of instruction
at any local community college or university.
Bachelor of Arts or Science, Psychology
In the past psychology courses were available only through
the social science degree but now the complete degree program
is available with at least two psychology courses being offered
every semester.
After completing lower division general education and psychology
courses at a community college or another university, students
will be eligible for admission to the off-campus psychology degree
program. The 33 hours Psychology major is made up of courses
in five core areas, electives and two non-psychology requirements.
These 33 hours must include at least 18 hours of psychology courses
at the 3000 level or higher.
Bachelor of Arts, Criminal Justice
The off-campus Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree
program is designed to offer a multi-disciplinary approach. The
program draws on many fields, allowing students to proceed to
a variety of careers in criminal justice as well law school or
graduate studies.
Criminal Justice is a joint program between the political science
and sociology departments. Classes are also offered in various
supporting disciplines including: Communication and Mass Media,
Philosophy, Anthropology, and Psychology. The program also offers
an internship elective with placement available in a variety
of Wyoming criminal justice agencies.

Master of Science, Speech-Language Pathology
The Speech-Language Pathology Masters program is open to both
resident and nonresident students. Some under graduate "leveling"
courses are offered for students preparing for the master's degree.
The "leveling" courses consist of about 12 speech,
language, and hearing science core courses.
The master of science degree in Speech-Language Pathology leads
to Eligibility for the Certificate of Clinical competence in
Speech-Language Pathology. (CCC/SLP).
Master of Public Administration
Designed for public servants, as well as for traditional
precareer students wanting to enter public service, the program
is one of the most successful off-campus degree programs at UW,
The MPA program provides education and training for professionals
seeking careers in federal, state and local government agencies,
and typically covers a broad range of topics. The curriculum
requires at least 39 semester credits of course work and is divided
into three sections: required core, option core, and elective
tracks.
Instructional techniques are tailored to the needs of adult
students. Much of the course work is offered through a combination
of video and audio teleconferencing and intensive weekend sessions
held at a central location in the State.
